Job Description

Scope of Practice:

Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, the Associate Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Nursing Department and ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality care. This role includes the implementation and monitoring of nursing standards, policies, and procedures. The Associate Director acts on behalf of the Director of Nursing during their absence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Participate in the development and implementation of resident care policies and procedures.
• Communicate departmental and institutional policies to staff, residents, families, and the community.
• Collaborate with the Director of Nursing to determine staffing requirements and create staff schedules.
• Collect, analyze, and present statistical data as needed.
• Assist in budget planning and monitor supply costs and staff utilization.
• Coordinate resident care services across nursing and interdisciplinary teams.
• Conduct investigations related to resident abuse, neglect, misconduct, or care issues and report findings.
• Lead the facility’s Performance Improvement program.
• Review 24-hour nursing reports to evaluate nursing interventions and identify care issues.
• Conduct regular rounds to assess compliance and quality of care.
• Participate in administrative rounds with the Director of Nursing or other leaders.
• Collaborate with the Staff Education Department to evaluate and meet staff training needs.
• Serve as a clinical resource during interdisciplinary team meetings.
• Evaluate Nurse Managers and Administrative Nursing Care Coordinators annually or as needed.
• Support recruitment and retention initiatives for the nursing team.
• Conduct weekly meetings with Nurse Managers and Administrative Coordinators to discuss resident care, staffing, and labor concerns.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
• Attend conferences and meetings to stay updated on long-term care trends and best practices.
• Assist in preparation for NYSDOH surveys.
• Provide support during emergencies to ensure resident safety and operational efficiency.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in Nursing Administration.
• Documented experience in caring for individuals with AIDS.
• Working knowledge of the Minimum Data Set (MDS) system.

Education Requirements:

Required:

• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a Master’s degree in a related health care field (preferred).
• Completion of an orientation program focused on the care of individuals with AIDS.

Licensure & Certifications:

• Current and valid New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License.
