1. What are the candidates lacking regarding the skill sets that the manager is specifically looking for? We are looking for candidates who have a solid background of CAD knowledge whether from school or some industry experience. Some of the resumes received were architectural or unrelated to our industry and other candidates were better fits given their skillsets/experience.
2. Is the manager only looking for candidates who have had specific electrical drafting experience and/or internships using AutoCAD or one of the other software tools mentioned previously (Revit, Microstation, Inventor, etc.) The job description says “no previous engineering work experience required” which is why I wanted to clarify. We have had AutoCAD skilled candidates with and without electrical CAD experience/internships rejected which is why I am asking. I wouldn’t say they can only have electrical experience, however that is the type of work they would be supporting if hired and would help. Again, we found other candidates to be better suited if they had more experience primarily in electrical. Our primary software uses are, AutoCad, AutoCad Electrical, Microstation and Inventor, so if there were candidates who primarily had experience in Revit or Sketchup they were rejected.
3. Would the manager consider current students who are available to work 40+ hours per week because they are either graduating soon or perhaps they attend evening classes? Or, do candidates have to have already graduated with an Associate degree, CAD certification, or otherwise to be considered? No we are targeting candidates with degrees/certifications.
4. Would the manager consider engineering students who are skilled in the use of AutoCAD or any of the other software tools, as long as they are available to work and they are interested in doing the electrical CAD drafting? We are primarily targeting CAD students/professionals. Even though the engineering students may have some experience/exposure, it is not their primary area of focus and usually not where they desire to stay in their careers
