Job Description

Content Director, Leadership Team Member

The content director sets the copy tone and direction for projects in the agency by providing content ideas, best practices, and feedback. The content director is aware of the big picture for all clients, accepts new projects as they come into the studio, and owns the content portion of projects as they move through the creative process. Some projects will be written by the team with input from the content director, others will be written entirely or partially by the content director. The content director is charged with coming up with new content ideas and topics for our clients.

Direct reports: senior copywriter, copywriter, copyeditor/proofreader, social media producer

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate on projects with the creative director as needed.
  • Attend and actively participate in project kickoff meetings, project status meetings, and other ongoing project meetings with feedback, best practices, ideas, etc.
  • Coordinate with sales director on new and ongoing projects to assure that each and every project's content meets or exceeds client expectation. This includes, but is not limited to, driving the content once project details are known.
  • Coordinate with the project manager on each projects' status and deadline(s).
  • Inspire and lead our content team, delegate assignments appropriately, and provide feedback, best practices, ideas, quality control, and a high level of creativity.
  • Coordinate with social media manager and social media producer to elevate content.
  • Generate ideas for our clients.
  • Craft creative brief for special projects (not necessarily ongoing projects) with creative director.
  • Relationships are the heart of the agency. Build enduring, trust-based client relationships.
  • Act as a brand ambassador for the company and actively promote our company.
  • Write with creativity, purpose, and precision, mindful of what draws and motivates audiences.
  • Champion smart ideas and provide rationale that links to strategies, insights, and target data.
  • Ensure copy and concepts stay connected and cohesive throughout multiple touchpoints.
  • Understand the role of copy, as both a brand messaging mechanism and a means to compel action.
  • Understand the difference between informational writing, conversational social writing, and writing for advertising purposes. Understand brand equity and direction; apply appropriate tone and style.
  • Continually build expertise in clients' omnichannel needs, priorities, and processes. Seek out and apply industry trends and innovations.
  • Proactively partner with creative director, strategy director, and account managers (i.e. CEO and sales director).
  • Manage the content team of writers and proofreaders/copyeditors.
  • Give and receive constructive criticism for the sake of the quality of client projects and processes.
  • Collaborate with creative, account, and planning team members to convincingly present ideas.
  • Embrace each assignment as an opportunity to create fresh ideas and grow professionally.
  • Meet strict deadlines with agility, and solve problems with passion and creativity.
  • Maintain sound business and professional ethics as well as empathy towards others.
  • Write for all audiences, including B2B, B2C, and D2C.
  • Write for a variety of media and types of projects, understanding their unique opportunities and limitations: print and digital ads, landing pages, social posts, websites, emails, proposals, articles, training materials, blogs, etc.
  • Communicate clearly and succinctly via both short and long form writing.
  • Maintain accuracy by proofreading for grammar, spelling, and style as well as adherence to client specifications
  • Understand brand voice, tone, and style, and conform to brand guidelines and restrictions.
  • Work with passion, confidence, respect, and empathy.
  • Organize and format information.
  • Think creatively and strategically, while staying curious and open to new ideas.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively while handling multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
  • Maintain sound business and professional ethics as well as client and agency confidentiality
  • Adhere to all processes, including but not limited to time tracking, job folder documentation, review and proofing, file naming, archiving, and PTO requests.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in English and marketing or communications.
  • 8-10 years of marketing communications experience in an agency environment.
  • CPG and e-commerce experience a plus.
  • Outstanding creative and technical writing ability.
  • Expert in MS Word.
  • Proficiency with the latest versions of MS Office 365 (PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) and Google suites in a Mac environment.
  • Ability to learn new software such as Function Point (estimating, time tracking, and invoicing application).
