Director of Preconstruction & Prefabrication - Mission Critical Electrical - Michigan
We are partnered with an industry leading Electrical contractor who are embarking on an ambitious initiative to establish two state-of-the-art prefabrication facilities in Michigan, totaling 120,000 sq ft. This is a rare and impactful opportunity for a Director of Preconstruction & Prefabrication to build and lead the prefabrication strategy from the ground up. You will be instrumental in integrating advanced prefabrication techniques into the mission-critical electrical projects, optimizing workflows, enhancing project delivery, and significantly expanding their competitive advantage.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, design, and execution of two new prefabrication facilities (totaling 120,000 sq ft) in Michigan, including layout, equipment selection, and operational setup.
- Develop and implement efficient manufacturing processes, quality control standards, and safety protocols for all prefabricated electrical assemblies.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the prefabrication facilities, ensuring optimal utilization, productivity, and adherence to production schedules.
- Manage budgets, resource allocation, and continuous improvement initiatives within the prefabrication division.
- Drive the integration of prefabrication and modularization strategies into the early stages of all mission-critical electrical projects.
- Collaborate closely with estimating, engineering, project management, and field operations teams to identify prefabrication opportunities and develop buildable solutions.
- Lead the development of comprehensive preconstruction plans, including detailed scopes of work, cost estimates, schedules, and risk assessments for complex electrical systems.
- Champion the use of advanced technologies such as BIM/VDC (Building Information Modeling/Virtual Design and Construction) for design optimization, clash detection, and prefabrication planning.
- Develop and implement long-term prefabrication strategies aligned with the company's growth objectives and market demands in the mission-critical sector.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for prefabrication efficiency, cost savings, quality, and safety, and regularly report on performance.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in prefabrication, modular construction, and mission-critical electrical systems.
- Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and collaboration across all project phases.
- Recruit, hire, train, and mentor a high-performing team of prefabrication specialists, engineers, designers, and production personnel.
- Provide strong leadership and guidance, fostering a positive, safe, and productive work environment.
- Develop training programs to enhance the skills and capabilities of the prefabrication workforce.
- Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, and general contractors to showcase prefabrication capabilities and deliver innovative, value-engineered solutions.
- Participate in client presentations and proposals, articulating the benefits and efficiencies of our prefabrication approach for mission-critical projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in electrical construction, with a significant portion dedicated to mission-critical projects (data centers, healthcare, industrial, etc.).
- At least 5 years of leadership experience in preconstruction and/or prefabrication, with a proven track record of successfully implementing and managing prefabrication initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience in the development and management of large-scale prefabrication facilities (experience with facilities >50,000 sq ft highly preferred).
- Deep understanding of electrical systems, National Electrical Code (NEC), and relevant industry standards for mission-critical environments.
- Expertise in BIM/VDC platforms and other relevant construction technology.
- Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, cost control, and profitability analysis for prefabrication operations.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to build, motivate, and manage diverse teams.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a strategic mindset.
- Willingness to travel within Michigan as required to manage both prefabrication facilities and project sites.
