Structural Engineer – Forensics Practice

Location: Southern California (Anaheim, Los Angeles, or Sacramento)

ABGI Talent Solutions is partnering with a well-established structural engineering firm to seek an experienced Structural Engineer to join their growing Forensics Practice . This role will focus on the modification and renovation of residential and light commercial structures within California jurisdictions, with an emphasis on insurance-funded repair and reconstruction . The ideal candidate has a strong background in structural design, construction documents, and working directly with contractors and owners in fast-paced environments.

Day in the Life:

As a Structural Engineer (Forensics Practice Area) , you will:

  • Assess existing structures to develop jurisdiction-compliant construction documents for repair and reconstruction.
  • Work closely with contractors, insurance adjusters, and property owners to understand damage conditions and propose effective solutions.
  • Lead and manage the fast-paced development of CD packages, incorporating structural, architectural, and basic MEP components.
  • Conduct damage assessments and prepare written reports summarizing findings and compliance justifications.
  • Oversee projects ranging from minor repairs to complete rebuilds, ensuring adherence to California building codes.
  • Collaborate with the Northern California Forensics team to expand and represent the firm’s growing presence in Southern California.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, leveraging past experience to drive business growth.
  • Travel throughout the region to conduct site visits, client meetings, and inspections.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you should have:

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural Engineering emphasis (Master’s preferred).
  • California Civil Engineering (PE) licensure required.
  • California Structural Engineering (SE) license is a plus.

Experience & Skills:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in structural design, renovation, and forensic assessments.
  • Strong knowledge of California permitting requirements, including CalGreen, Title 24 energy, ADA, and WUI.
  • Proven ability to generate, scope, manage, and complete projects generating $500,000+ in revenue per year.
  • Experience working with insurance adjusters, reconstruction contractors, and attorneys in the Forensics market.
  • Proficiency in steel, concrete, timber, and masonry structural systems.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, and other BIM platforms.
  • Strong technical writing skills, with experience drafting damage reports, compliance justifications, and expert witness testimony (a plus).
  • Ability to mentor and develop junior engineers while collaborating across multiple offices and remote environments.

  • Hybrid work schedule with flexibility for remote work and in-office collaboration.
  • Regional travel required for site visits, client meetings, and inspections.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $10,500 - $16,500 per month, based on experience and location.
