Description Are you a skilled tax professional seeking an opportunity to work with a purpose-driven organization? Our client, a dynamic nonprofit, is looking for a Tax Accountant to support their unique tax compliance and reporting needs. Responsibilities: + Prepare and review federal and state tax filings, including Forms 990 and 1099, ensuring compliance with nonprofit regulations and deadlines. + Monitor and advise on tax-exempt status compliance, including activities that may result in unrelated business taxable income (UBTI). + Research and interpret nonprofit tax laws and regulations to provide guidance on tax-related matters. + Assist with accounting for tax positions in accordance with GAAP, ensuring accurate financial statement presentation. + Work closely with leadership to manage financial reporting and support audits with tax-related documentation. + Oversee the preparation of property, sales, and payroll tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance. + Partner with development teams to assess the tax implications of donor contributions, grants, and other funding sources. + Stay current with industry developments and changes in tax legislation affecting nonprofit organizations. Requirements + Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or EA designation preferred). + 3+ years of tax accounting experience, ideally within the nonprofit sector or public accounting with a focus on nonprofits. + Strong knowledge of IRS regulations, particularly as they pertain to tax-exempt organizations (e.g., Form 990, UBTI). + Proficiency with tax preparation software and accounting systems; experience with tools like ProSystem fx or UltraTax preferred. + Excellent research skills and attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex tax laws. + Proven ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. + Strong communication and collaboration skills to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
